Oilfield Chemicals Selection Guide
In oil and gas exploration, the performance of drilling fluids (mud) is critical for wellbore stability and cutting transport. RawChemicalMart supplies a comprehensive range of rheology modifiers and fluid loss control agents designed to meet API (American Petroleum Institute) standards.
Core Mud Additives & Functions
Our chemical solutions are tailored for water-based mud (WBM) systems to handle challenging downhole conditions.
1. Xanthan Gum (Viscosifier)
Known as the "gold standard" for drilling fluid viscosity.
- Function: Provides exceptional low-shear rate viscosity (LSRV) for hole cleaning and solids suspension.
- Advantage: Stable in high-salinity and high-temperature environments. It exhibits unique shear-thinning properties, reducing pump pressure while maintaining suspension when circulation stops.
2. CMC & PAC (Fluid Loss Control)
Cellulose derivatives are essential for preventing fluid migration into the formation.
- CMC (Carboxymethyl Cellulose): An economical fluid loss reducer and viscosifier. Available in High Viscosity (HV) and Low Viscosity (LV) grades.
- PAC (Polyanionic Cellulose): A premium grade filtration control agent. PAC-LV reduces fluid loss without significantly increasing mud viscosity, while PAC-R provides both viscosity and filtration control.
3. Specialty Additives
- Benzoic Acid: Used as a bridging agent in temporary diversion and as a preservative.
- Citric Acid: Used to sequester iron ions and adjust pH levels in completion fluids.
Drilling Fluid Application Chart
| Chemical | Primary Function | Recommended Mud Type |
|---|---|---|
| Xanthan Gum | Viscosifier / Suspension | Freshwater, Seawater, Brine |
| CMC-HV | Viscosity & Fluid Loss | Freshwater Muds |
| PAC-LV | Fluid Loss Control | All Water-Based Muds |
| Citric Acid | pH Reducer / Iron Control | Acidizing Fluids |
